In 1964 Dr. Hobbins lost a close friend to breast cancer. She discovered a lump by palpation and passed away 6 months later at the age of 36. In 1964, palpation was the only detection method for breast cancer. Dr. Hobbins began his life-long research in discovering breast imaging modalities.
"As seventy five women a day die in the United States of cancer of the breast and because it is the number one killer between the ages of 35 and 50 of women in the United States a great deal of attention was placed upon the breast examination in my practice. In 1964, as a private practicing physician of general and thoracic surgery... it became apparent that I was not affording the patient who came for breast examination all that was available by our present knowledge. So I resolved that any female patient, over the age of 30 who presented herself for any complaint or examination, would be mammogramed."
Willam Hobbins M.D., "Seven Year Mammography in Private Practice", 1971
Here is an abridged timeline of Dr. Hobbins lifelong work (full version may be found below):
"Earlier detection of breast cancer is necessary to reduce the mortality rate of this disease... mammography will detect breast cancer... earlier than waiting for the female to find the lump. Earlier detection will hopefully change the present cure rate from 45% to 90% and nationally save 20,000 lives annually".
In 1971 Dr. Hobbins believed every woman over 35 should receive an annual mammogram. "At this time in our medical history the practical problem of reaching this goal are insurmountable. There is not enough personnel or equipment affordable in the country today to mammograph every female."
Willam Hobbins M.D., "Seven Year Mammography in Private Practice", 1971

Dear Patients,
Don't be fooled by second-rate thermography that only uses color images and not black hot images. Black hot images are critical for viewing blood vessel patterns which can only be read by a skilled interpreter who has been mentored. It is very easy to use a print-and-click software program to read temperatures, but it is very difficult to interpret blood vessel patterns.
Questions to ask a thermography clinic to determine if they are qualified:
1. Do you record images in black hot?
2. Is your optical line resolution of your camera at least 480, if not above?
3. Is your camera FDA approved for Breast Thermography or FDA approved for skin temperature variation only?
4. How often is your camera calibrated for temperature accuracy?
5. Does your interpreter sign your report with his or her name?
6. Is there a TH score assigned for each of your breasts?
7. Is your thermography center associated with a board licensed medical professional (Medical Doctor, Acupuncturist, Chiropractor, Naturopath)?
8. Is the technician certified?
